| Abstract (English): | This article discusses the texts that Michel de Certeau devoted to Latin America, either in whole or in part, between 1967 and the early 1980s. His encounter with Latin America thus accompanied the second part of his intellectual career, during which, after first training with father De Lubac and then at the École Pratique des Hautes Études, in the seminar of philologist and historian Jean Orcibal, he became an intellectual committed to the field of human sciences. Far from being just another dimension of his work, the Latin American experience played an essential role for De Certeau. It was the site of anthropological work that transformed his understanding of the world. In the pages that follow, I propose an argumentative itinerary through the texts of Michel de Certeau. This itinerary is organized around three successive themes: popular religion, political violence, and the invention of an anthropology common to Europe and America. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Spanish): | Este artículo trata sobre los textos que Michel de Certeau dedicó a América Latina, total o parcialmente, entre 1967 y principios de la década de 1980. El encuentro con América Latina acompañó así la segunda parte de su trayectoria intelectual, durante la cual, tras formarse primero con el padre De Lubac y luego en la Escuela Práctica de Altos Estudios, en el seminario del filólogo e historiador Jean Orcibal, se convirtió en un intelectual comprometido con el campo de las ciencias humanas. Lejos de ser una dimensión más de su obra, la experiencia de América Latina desempeñó un papel esencial para De Certeau. Fue el lugar de un trabajo antropológico que transformó su comprensión del mundo. En las páginas que siguen, propongo un itinerario argumentado a través de los textos de Michel de Certeau. O encontro com a América Latina acompanhou assim a segunda parte de sua trajetória intelectual, durante a qual, após se formar primeiro com o padre Lubac e depois na Escola Prática de Altos Estudos, no seminário do filólogo e historiador Jean Orcibal, tornou-se um intelectual comprometido com o campo das ciências humanas. Longe de ser mais uma dimensão de sua obra, a experiência da América Latina desempenhou um papel essencial para Certeau.
