| Abstract (English): |
The article focuses on an anthropological perspective on the causes and nature of war from the Pleistocene to the present. It argues that war is not an innate or biological characteristic of human beings, but rather a social and cultural phenomenon that arises under specific conditions such as sedentism, social hierarchy, the trade of prestige goods, and ecological crises. A general theory is presented that distinguishes three interrelated dimensions to understand war: infrastructure (material conditions), structure (social organization), and superstructure (values and beliefs). Furthermore, it is emphasized that war is an extension of internal politics, influenced by leaders seeking to consolidate power, and that the construction of opposing identities (“us versus them”) is a social process that legitimizes conflict. Finally, it is highlighted that peace is an active phenomenon distinct from the mere absence of war, and that there is no scientific basis preventing the possibility of a future without wars. | Abstract (Spanish): |
