Abstract (English):	This article traces the political militancy of the washerwomen of the Manzanares River in Madrid, from the Sexenio Democrático (1868-1874) to the onset of the Spanish Civil War. Drawing on contemporary newspaper sources, it explores the contested participation of this group in various political movements, beginning with the "intransigent" republicans and moving on to the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party and the Women's Socialist Group. Additionally, it advances a theory regarding the social function of the washhouse as a crucial incubator for female socialist militancy. The article also addresses the reactions of different sectors of bourgeois society to the initiatives of these politicized workers, analyzing the rhetoric employed to delegitimize them both in the political press and in cultural spheres such as the theater. Finally, it recounts how the group's political legacy was neutralized and erased through various strategic mechanisms of the hegemonic cultural apparatus of the time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish):	Este artículo examina la militancia política de las lavanderas del Manzanares en Madrid, desde principios del Sexenio Democrático (1868-1874) hasta el inicio de la Guerra Civil Española. Basado en fuentes periodísticas del momento, examina la participación disputada de este grupo en varios movimientos políticos, empezando con el de los republicanos "intransigentes" y siguiendo después con su afiliación con el Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE) y la Agrupación Femenina Socialista. Además, avanza una teoría sobre la función social del lavadero como incubador crucial de la militancia socialista femenina. También aborda las reacciones de distintos sectores de la sociedad burguesa ante las iniciativas de estas obreras politizadas, analizando la retórica empleada para deslegitimarlas tanto en la prensa política como en ámbitos culturales como el teatro.
