| Abstract (English): | The Venezuelan crisis constitutes one of the most accelerated and complex processes of de-democratization in the Western Hemisphere. Since Hugo Chávez's rise to power in 1998, Venezuela has transitioned from a representative democracy -weakened but functional- to a closed autocracy under Nicolás Maduro, whose consolidation ended in the electoral fraud of July 2024. Maduro's refusal to concede his defeat and the escalation of repression that followed precipitated an unprecedented response from the U.S. government: On January 3, 2026, a U.S. military operation extracted Maduro from Caracas and transferred him to New York to face narco-terrorism charges. This article analyzes the fundamental milestones of this labyrinth -from the experiences of Chavismo, Maduro's legacy, electoral fraud, the situation of the Opposition, military intervention, to the transitional scenario- offering an approximation to the indicators of a democratic opening and a probable economic liberalization.
