Abstract (English): The article examines how the concept of the technocratic paradigm serves as a central tool for moral discernment of modern technology, connecting Pope Francis's 2015 encyclical Laudato si' with Magnifica humanitas from 2026. Francis introduces the technocratic paradigm as a form of rationality that reduces reality to manipulable variables and expands the logic of technical domination to all spheres of human existence, applying it specifically to genetically modified organisms, while Leo XIV revisits this concept to analyze artificial intelligence. Both popes agree that technology is not neutral but rather reflects the face of those who conceive, finance, and control it, and that the real problem lies in the power asymmetries its control generates, not in technology itself. The two exercises in discernment share four points of convergence: they reject both techno-optimism and techno-pessimism, recognize the central problem of concentrated power, place the most vulnerable at the center of their analysis, and demand broad discernment that involves all sectors of society. The technocratic paradigm thus emerges as a fundamental structural category to accompany Catholic magisterial reflection on modern technique, allowing any technology to be evaluated not by its intrinsic nature but by who controls it, who benefits from it, and who it excludes.
