Abstract: The article discusses the intellectual contributions and influence of Mexican poet, cultural critic, and Nobel laureate Octavio Paz. It considers his critique of repression and authoritarianism, reflects on his essay "El laberinto de la soledad," and its depiction of Mexican identity, and explores the influence of Spanish philosopher Ortega y Gasset on his thought.
