| Abstract (English): | This paper highlights the cosmological symbolism of some buildings and plastic images in the city of Palenque with the objective of understanding the presence in this place of itzamná, celestial and creator deity of the Maya. This deity is represented as a two headed celestial dragon and as a dragon with a Skyband body in the tombstone of K'inich Janahb' Pakal and in the tablet of the Temple of the Cross, dedicated to god GI, a member of the Palenque Triad. the inscriptions found in this tablet tell the story of the present world. The name Itzamná, also in close relationship with GI, and as a creator god, is mentioned in the inscriptions at Temple XIX, dealing also with the origin of the world. | Abstract (Spanish): | En este trabajo se destaca el simbolismo cosmológico manifiesto en algunas construcciones y relieves de la ciudad de Palenque, con la finalidad de entender la presencia en este sitio de Itzamná, la deidad celeste y creadora de los mayas. Esta deidad se representa como Dragón Celeste bicéfalo y como dragón con cuerpo de banda astral en la lápida de la tumba de K'inich Janahb' Pakal y en el tablero del Templo de la Cruz, dedicado al dios GI, miembro de la Tríada palencana. En las inscripciones de este tablero se relata el origen del mundo actual. El nombre Itzamná, también en estrecha relación con GI, se menciona como dios creador en los textos del Templo XIX, donde se relata asimismo el origen del mundo, confirmando la identificación de la deidad con el Dragón Celeste.
