Abstract: The article focuses on the radio endeavors that began in the 1980s by the Centro Internacional de Estudios Superiores de Comunicación para América Latina (CIESPAL), an organization based in Quito, Ecuador that promotes communication and journalism in Latin America. The author describes the historical context in Latin America in relation to the goals of CIESPAL to promote greater political and social participation by all Latin Americans, and he also talks about the diversity of Latin American cultures presented in the radio programming. Finally, the author discusses technological advances and possible directions for the CIESPAL radio program involving the internet and increased collaboration with other programs in Europe.
