| Abstract: |
The article focuses on the role of women in sustainable environmental management in Africa. It states that many women in African countries are de facto heads of households because their husbands have moved into the cities to seek for or perform jobs. However, women still contribute to conservation, use and management of natural resources, collection of medicinal plants, collection and use of biofuels and planting trees. It adds that the link between women and environmental resources has been well documented, since an increasing body of literature on ecofeminism seeks to combine different feminist theories and relate them to environmental issues. The Women, Environment and Development asserts that there is a special bond between women and the environment. |
