Summary: The Apicomplexa are a phylum of single celled parasitic organisms that cause a wide range of diseases from human malaria and encephalitis in AlDs patients to coccidiosis in chickens and East Coast fever in cattle. There has been a huge effort in recent years to sequence the genomes of many of these pathogens. This thesis begins by taking a comparative genomics approach to predict novel metabolic pathways from the newly sequenced genomes of Toxoplasma gondii and Eimeha tenella.
