Title: Design of a Simulated Laboratory Course in Microprocessor Based Digital System Design
Authors: Galyon, Rosalind N.
Committee Members: Khajenoori, Soheil
Summary: The graphics and simulation capabilities of computers provide invaluable learning aids for students in digital logic design courses. This thesis presents a model for a university undergraduate level course in microprocessor system design using the computer-aided engineering (CAE) approach. CAE software effectively supports fundamental exercises in the design of microprocessor based and LSI digital systems. Experiments to support the lecture material are presented. The course utilizes the Apollo computer and Mentor Graphics Application Software. Laboratory material on basic digital logic simulation, microprocessor clock generation (timing), ROM and RAM memory, and input/output interfaces are presented along with documented solutions. Background material on the simulation software and the selected microprocessor is reviewed.
