It is essential that high school students d evelop an understanding of the statistical procedures of collecting, presenting, and analyzing information. Historically, the use of a computer in statistics required extensive knowledge about the hardware and software procedures. This software package is designed to aid junior/senior high school students in descriptive statistics in a friendly environment. The development of this package involved the coding of BASIC, a common microcomputer language, into an interactive system of programs that can assist both students and teachers. Using menus for topic selection, the software incorporates terminology, data presentation, and descriptive measurements under student control using computer generated data or student created data. A major consideration was the development of software that would be user friendly, ease to use, and helpful to students with descriptive statistics prodecures. The package is compatible with the very minimum IBM personal computer system (8088). |
