| Abstract: | Digital recording breaks music into bits and then reassembles them producing a sound that can be compared to a newspaper photograph made up of pixels. Digital music uses sound sampling to convert music into digital data that's read by a laser. Music on a compact disc is sampled at a rate of 44,100 times per second, which would seem like enough to reproduce all the sound of a concerto or jazz riff. Consistent and accurate timing of turntable revolutions and, thus, the ability to reproduce music with pitch accuracy are essential to faithful sound reproduction. |
