The article examines some ethical issues addressed by reference professionals and discusses the results of a survey of reference librarians in the U.S. Topics covered include the codes of ethics established by library associations, the lack of empirical research examining how reference librarians solve ethical dilemmas, and the two most common categories of ethical issues, namely, copyright issues and confidentiality and privacy issues. Also mentioned is the lack of formal ethics training. |
