Abstract: In the IT area and more special in the software development area any changes in used files can be very important. Saving many copies of each file created can require a large amount of memory and also can lead to an incoherence in control and tracking changes. Things can be more complicated when, for the same project, work many users. As a solution to these issues were developed software mechanisms to easily control, store and track the changes of the files and easy sharing between different users of same files. This paper presents an overview over version control systems and software which can be used to completely control the status of used files. Also will be presented an open-source solution which can be used by the most of common software developers and not only. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
