Abstract: Abstract A stable three-dimensional coordination polymer, [Eu 2 (pbbp)(pbsd) 3 ] (1) (H 2 pbsd = 2,2′-((1,4-phenylenebis(methylene))bis(sulfanediyl))dinicotinic acid, H 2 pbbp·2Cl = 1,1′-(1,4-phenylene-bis(methylene))-bis(3-carboxy pyridinium) dichloride), was prepared by the solvothermal reaction of Eu(NO 3) 3 ·6H 2 O, H 2 pbbp·2Cl and H2pbsd in mixed solvent of DMF and H 2 O, which was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analyses. 1 exhibits a 3D 6-connected sqcl network decorated by uncoordinated Lewis basic thioether groups. In particular, 1 shows excellent application as luminescent sensor for sensing Ag+ ions in ethylene glycol solution with high sensitivity and selectivity based on luminescence quenching effect. Graphical abstract A stable three-dimensional coordination polymer with uncoordinated sites has been prepared by the solvothermal reaction, which exhibits a good selective and sensitive detection of Ag+ ions. fx1 Highlights • 3D structure with flexible carboxylate ligand. • The uncoordinated Lewis basic thioether groups within the pores of framework. • The Emission spectra of 1 exhibits the characteristic transition of Eu3+ ions. • Compound 1 exhibits good selective and sensitive for detection of Ag(I) ion.
