| Abstract: | The article presents information on the general schemes for subject classification. The general schemes for subject classification, such as, Dewey Decimal Classification, Library of Congress Classification, Colon Classification (CC), and Universal Decimal Classification, provide common schedules of ideas that may occur in different subjects, for example, for languages, geographical areas and time. The advantage is that such ideas need not be enumerated in each of the schedules for different subject fields but can be taken from the common schedule, and one and the same idea being represented by the same code or number, ensuring consistency and mnemonics. CC categorizes ideas constituting various subjects as: ideas denoting Time, Space, Energy/Action, Matter Property/Attribute, Matter material, Personality, Basic subject and speciators (Qualifiers). Common schedules of Time, Space, energy, property are already provided for. Additionally there are common schedules of Environment ideas, Language ideas, and a few common Personality ideas. Alternatively a Common Schedule of the Personality ideas enumerated for different subjects can be provided, with the direction that these ideas may be used as Personality or Matter Material or as Speciator as appropriate in the context of different subjects. |
