| Abstract: | To operate a power system network properly, it is important that the protection system should work efficiently. Relays are the brain of the power system which senses the fault condition and trips the circuit breaker for reliable operation of the rest of the power system network. Two important parameters that affect the relays' performance are the plug setting (PS) and the time dial setting (TDS). With proper tuning of PS and TDS, the response/operating time of the relay may be optimized. Therefore, to tune the PS and TDS and improve the response time of a relay, an Aggrandized Class Topper optimization (A-CTO) algorithm is presented. The capability of the proposed technique is examined with six test systems like IEEE 3, 4 and 8-Bus networks. The efficacy of the proposed technique is proven by analyzing the acquired results with CTO and other methods results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
