Abstract: The article focuses on the influence of holding time in the heating/pouring unit on the metallurgical quality of spheroidal graphite iron. Topics include the effects of composition of charge material, superheating and holding of the melt, magnesium treatment; inoculation process on the nucleation potential and metallurgical quality of the iron; and examines the correlation between holding time and graphite shape parameters, the presence of carbides in the microstructure of the iron.
