Abstract: • Steel slag inspired Supersulfate cement hydrated 28-day compressive strength exceeding 50 MPa. • Excessive steel slag causes the hydration of Supersulfate cements to produce expansive Ettringite. • The optimum dosage of steel slag as alkaline exciter is 10%. In order to investigate the feasibility of steel slag as an alkaline exciter for supersulfated cement, the effects of different steel slag dosages on the properties of supersulfated cement were studied. The results show that when steel slag is used as alkaline exciter, the compressive strength and softening coefficient of supersulfate cement increase and then decrease with the increase of steel slag dosage, and the increase of steel slag dosage accelerates the hydration of slag, forming more hydration products of Ettringite and C-S-H gel. Steel slag dosage in 10% of the best results, excessive steel slag will generate expansion of Ettringite, resulting in expansion of the cement matrix structure cracking, is not conducive to the development of strength.
