Abstract: The production of polarized mesons at the NICA (Nuclotron based Ion Collider fAcility) energy of GeV is studied on the basis of the generalized parton model in the leading order of perturbative QCD. The hadronization of a quark pair to a meson is described within the model of nonrelativistic QCD. Nonperturbative model parameters are determined on the basis of a comparison with available experimental data on the production of prompt mesons at the energies of GeV (NA3) and GeV (PHENIX).
