An opinion is presented in which the author explains why California's Safe and Secure Innovation for Frontier Artificial Intelligence Models Act, or SB 1047, enacted in August 2024, was vetoed. Topics of discussion include the bill's four categories of critical harms, a comparison between SB 1047 and the European Union's AI Act, and reasons why California Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed the bill. |
