| Abstract: |
The purpose of the experimental study of circular plates on a sand basement under the vertical load was to verify the numerical analytic solution obtained previously to determine the settlement of a circular foundation on an elastic-plastic base. Shear-strength and triaxial compression tests were carried out to determine the mechanical parameters of the soils. Experimental results of plate tests showed good convergence with the calculated 'settlement–load' plots. The experimental data can be used to verify the methods of settlement and bearing-capacity calculations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
