| Abstract (English): |
The workshop "Recycling with Science" is part of a social project implemented in a rural community in the state of Yucatán, Mexico, aimed at secondary school students. The objective of the workshop is to promote academic learning and the integral development of students by developing competencies in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), applying project-based learning and the principles of computational thinking. The methodology employed is descriptive, with an experimental design of a mixed approach. In the workshop, both connected and unplugged computational thinking were implemented to build simple robotic devices using recycled materials. Students modeled their projects on the functioning of Lego EV3 robots and designed prototypes of mechanical carts. This practical and collaborative approach allowed students to effectively understand and apply STEM concepts, while also promoting creativity and teamwork. Additionally, the workshop encouraged the development of social skills and environmental awareness, which are essential for the integral development of students and their community. The results indicate that the combination of connected and unplugged activities is effective in teaching complex concepts in an accessible and engaging manner, benefiting both academic learning and the personal growth of the students.
