This study explores the controlled electrochemical deposition of Fe20Ni80 alloy thin films by varying boric acid concentrations in the electrolyte solution to prevent anomalous electrodeposition of iron and attain desired film characteristics. Cyclic voltammetry plots confirm an increase in reduction current density with higher boric acid concentrations. Successful deposition of desired Fe20Ni80 alloy composition films on ITO/glass substrate was achieved with electrolyte solution having 0.5 M boric acid solution. Morphological and magnetic investigation reveals that films produced with higher boric acid concentrations exhibit more uniform deposition with finer particle size, desired alloy composition and superior magnetic properties. Bulk hysteresis measurements confirm soft ferromagnetic behavior with low coercivity (Hc∼ 40 Oe) and high in-plane remanence ratio indicating an in-plane easy axis. The magnetic behavior of the films can be correlated with the deposited alloy composition. The surface hysteresis obtained from the Longitudinal Magneto Optic Kerr Effect supports the bulk hysteresis behavior. By utilizing appropriate boric acid concentrations in electrolytes, the electrodeposited Fe–Ni film's structural and magnetic properties could be finely tuned for their potential technological applications.
