Abstract: An algorithm for the calculation of a tubular reactor with an elementary simple first-order reaction when the reaction mass moves in the tubes by a laminar flow pattern is proposed. Comparative calculations by the proposed algorithm and the conventional algorithm implying the motion of a flow in the plug-flow and stirred-tank regimes are presented. Based on the obtained results, it is concluded that, at high conversions, the volume of a reactor with a laminar flow pattern may be more than an order of magnitude larger than the volume of a plug-flow reactor, but always remains smaller than the volume of a stirred-tank reactor providing the same degree of conversion.
