Abstract: This study explores the impact of incorporating waste precision casting sands into chamotte refractory bricks on their corrosion resistance. The corrosion tests compared the Na and Ca contents from glass slag and their penetration depths within the brick structure. The results showed that Na and Ca concentrations were highest in Region 1 (the glass-refractory region) across all samples and progressively decreased with depth. The reference sample experienced the most severe slag attack, whereas the incorporation of waste precision casting sands effectively reduced this degradation. Additionally, it was observed that the material's bulk density played a significant role in enhancing corrosion resistance, as a denser structure limited the penetration of corrosive glass melt into internal voids. Post-corrosion XRD analysis revealed the disappearance of specific crystalline peaks, particularly those corresponding to quartz and cristobalite, due to their transformation into an amorphous glassy phase during corrosion. Furthermore, increasing the zircon content in the material significantly reduced the glass slag penetration. The reference sample exhibited the most significant penetration, whereas the A-coded sample, with the highest zircon content, showed the lowest penetration depth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
