| Abstract: | The apple is among incredibly imperative fruits throughout world, equally in term of production and consumption, but chronic hailstorms are the genuine concerns and one of the major global threats for fruit production. Farmers currently perceive anti-hail nets probably a highly cost-effective way to control hail damage. On the other hand, anti-hail nets might encourage micrometeorological modifications that disrupt plant-environment interaction and influence the micro-climate of the fruit orchard, which may affect tree physiology, growth, development, fruit quality and yield of apple trees. In Himachal Pradesh, India, hail nets are frequently used without a line of poles as compared to Australia, New Zealand and Europe where continuous netting over gum tree trunks, pitched roofs over concrete or pine poles are used. However, the pollination process, bee activity, fruit set and quality of apples cultivated using anti-hail nets have not been thoroughly examined and are still poorly understood. For the first time this review article, provide an overview of the latest studies on anti-hail nets or protective covers and its impact on apple orchard dynamics. The article brings together relevant and current information for researchers working in the field of horticulture research, specifically sustainable quality apple production under hailstorm incidences.
