Abstract: Comparator instrumental neutron activation analysis was applied to determine element content of a sample of the Kazakhstan's tungsten concentrate containing 71.6 wt% of WO3. To take account of the soft gamma-ray self-absorption by the assay, the low-energy gamma-lines of 59Fe, 182Ta, 187W, and 233Pa close to the analytical gamma-lines of the other analyzed radionuclides were used as the internal comparators with their mass fractions found by the high-energy gamma-lines. This approach made self-absorption corrections independent of the geometry, density and elemental composition of the sample and reduced them to negligible values. Enhanced contents of a range of critical mineral raw material including Sc, In and heavy lanthanides, as well as of Ag, Au and some other elements, were found in the tungsten concentrate advantaging their industrial production as by-products.
