Abstract: To efficiently and harmlessly utilize steel slag (SS) and Dexing copper mine tailing (DCMT), this work used them to synthesize an environmentally friendly permeable ceramic material (PCM). The result shows that the incorporation of SS and DCMT can produce a glass liquid phase (GLP) composed of CaO-Fe2O3-SiO2-Al2O3-MgO and provide feasibility to synthesize the PCM. The optimal condition for synthesizing PCM was determined by adjusting the SS/DCMT mass ratio and sintering temperature, and we found that the PCM with a SS/DCMT mass ratio of 8/2 and a temperature of 1200 ℃ shows the best properties, with excellent permeability (0.492 cm/s, CNS: JC/T 945-2005: ≥ 0.01 cm/s) accompanied by a reduction in the heavy metal leaching rate of > 99%. This work provides a high-efficiency way to recycle SS and DCMT, and the obtained PCM can be used as a high-potential material and applied to pavement construction in the sponge city in China.
