| Abstract: |
18Cr2Ni4WA steel is extensively employed in components such as gears and bearings, owing to its superior mechanical properties. The carburized layer plays a crucial role in enhancing wear resistance and contact fatigue performance. However, traditional carburizing processes are time-consuming. This work presented the microstructural evolution, carbide precipitation, and localized mechanical properties of 18Cr2Ni4WA steel layer by layer after both high-temperature carburizing and conventional carburizing processes, followed by multistage heat treatment. High carburizing temperature reduced processing time by over 60 pct in comparison to the traditional strategy, and led to balanced mechanical properties. The effect of carburizing temperature on the microstructures and mechanical properties at specified carburized layers was discussed. This work offered valuable insights for the development of novel carburizing strategy for advanced steels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
