| Abstract: |
The generalized free volume formula and the Burakovsky-Preston model have been used to determine a new relationship for the gamma infinity in terms of pressure derivative of bulk modulus and the third- order Grüneisen parameter, both at infinite pressure. The validity of the thermodynamic constraint has been established firmly according to which the pressure derivative of bulk modulus K∞' is greater than the third- order Grüneisen parameter λ∞ in the limit of infinite pressure. The difference between K∞' and λ∞ has been found in terms of γ∞. The Burakovsky-Preston model with γ∞ = 1/2 has been used in the Lindemann law of melting to predict melting curves of NaCl, NaF, LiF, MgO, CaF2, SiC at high pressures in good agrement with the available experimental data.
