Abstract: The increasing demand for cost-effective and efficient inverters in grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) applications emphasises the need for a three-phase transformerless boost inverter with single/minimised dc source. Although switched capacitor (SC)/series parallel switched capacitor (SPSC) are effective, they face issues like high inrush currents and lack of common dc-link in three-phase applications. Thus, this paper proposes an advanced solution: a single-stage high gain three-phase single-source switched-capacitor (3PS3C) multilevel inverter (MLI) with suppressed inrush charging current by an optimal inductor for grid-integrated PV applications. It ensures self-balancing of dc-link capacitors without a prerequisite using finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC). The design achieves four-time voltage boost, minimised total standing voltage (TSV) and complete utilisation of the source. FCS-MPC provides robust performance with reduced computational burden. The proposed inverter is validated through MATLAB/Simulink, hardware prototype and real-time OPAL-RT simulator. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
