The present research focused on the fabrication of fibrous scaffolds loaded with titanate-based compounds as a candidate for the repairing of damaged soft tissues. The electrospinning process was used to produce a sandwich-like biocomposite with layers of PCL and PVA/gelatin on the face and core, respectively. MnTiO 3 , ZnTiO 3 , titanate-based compounds, were utilized to reinforce the polymeric mat. This study examines how visible light affects the biomineralization process on fibrous scaffolds with varying concentrations of MnTiO 3 (M1), ZnTiO 3 (Z1), and the 50:50 binary system (Z5M5). The mentioned titanate-based nanoparticles were produced by the solution combustion synthesis (SCS) method. XRD, FE-SEM, and TEM results indicated the chemical composition and morphology of nanoparticles, respectively. UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) revealed band gap values in the range of 2.5–3.55 eV for the synthesized samples. The narrow band gap of the synthesized sample could provide the absorption possibility of visible light. Besides, the fabricated composite scaffolds were analyzed physically, mechanically, and biologically. FE-SEM images and water contact angle analysis revealed that a decrease in fiber diameter is associated with increased hydrophilicity in bead-free composite scaffolds. Besides, the presence of nanoparticles increased the Young's modulus of scaffolds up to 5.5 MPa. In vitro experiments, including the MTT assay, showed the cytocompatibility of all scaffolds. Moreover, the evaluation of the scaffolds under visible light proved the surface bioactivity after 2–4 weeks of immersion in SBF. As a result of the biomineralization process, the surface roughness of the optimal sample (ZH4W) increased to 296 nm after light irradiation in SBF. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
