Abstract: Low optical efficiency is a main limitation of pinhole‐type dual‐view three‐dimensional (3D) displays. We propose a pinhole‐type dual‐view 3D display with high optical efficiency. An elemental image consists of two subelemental images which are alternate in the horizontal direction. The aperture width and interval of the pinhole array are systematically optimized. The light rays emitted from subelemental images are concentrated into the left and right viewing directions. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed pinhole‐type dual‐view 3D display provides identical angular ranges for both 3D images and achieves approximately 2.3 times the optical efficiency of the conventional one.
