Abstract: Cultural identity, as the process through which individuals recognize and internalize national historical traditions and core values, is crucial for cultural transmission and ethnic cohesion. The current study takes the Red Flag Canal as a research case and systematically explores the complex influence mechanisms of cultural tourism perception, perceived value, and cultural memory on cultural identity through a questionnaire survey of 133 higher education students. The results indicated that there are significant positive correlations among all variables. Further analysis indicates that cultural memory partially mediates the relationship between tourism perception and cultural identity, while perceived value positively moderates the link between tourism perception and cultural memory. Additionally, educational attainment was found to have a significant moderating effect. As educational attainment increases, the pathway to cultural identity shifts from a reliance on situational memory to a rational internalization. These findings confirm the promoting effect of tourism perception on cultural identity, reveal its underlying mechanisms and educational-level-specific paths, and provide theoretical support and practical reference for the precise implementation of cultural education and the innovative development of cultural cultivation in higher education institutions.
