| Abstract: | Indian non-coking coal beneficiation plays a very significant role for many coal industries, as it shows major challenges to compete in the global coal society or market. But due to the different properties of different coal from different coal mines, the targets cannot be achieved. Thus, washability studies are very much needed to know the washability behavior of different coals to increase the economy of the country. This difficulty in washing process causes due to the presence of near density materials. Thus, this study aims the washability characteristics of different Talcher area coal (Bhubaneswari coal, Hingula coal, Ananta coal, Balaram coal, Bharatpur coal and Jagannath coal) and also to characterize the inherent characteristics of different coal. Imperfection of raw coal qualities is believed to be the major cause for the lower yield of any industries. So, the importance of accurate quantification of coal has been demonstrated in this article to know its washable tendency or index of washability, indicating variation in the extent and nature of impurities associated with each coal. It was observed that the relationship between the ash content and specific gravity is linear and related with a co-efficient of multiple determination value of 0.979. The constants for the slope and intercept of the regression line were found to be −198.87 and 166.89 respectively. Highlights: The washability curve indicates the property variations from coal to coal for the Talcher Coal Fields Limited. A linear relationship is shown between the ash and carbon content and the specific gravity and hydrogen content with the coal carbon content. The constant for the equation relating to the gross calorific value, fixed carbon and volatile matter content was found to be 35. The ash content and specific gravity of different coals are linear and related with a co-efficient of multiple determination value of 0.979.
