| Abstract: |
The article reports on the emergence of a plethora of silicon (Si) photon-counting devices in the electronics market. A huge range of new applications from fluorescence-lifetime imaging to positron-emission tomography, radiation detection, high-energy physics, laser rangefinding, and particle sizing, are provided by these devices. Low-light imaging will be revolutionized by the latest generation Si photon-counting technology. This technology is based on the shallow-junction Geiger-mode biased Si diode. |
