| Abstract: |
The theory of the Askaryan process, impulsive RF emission from particle showers, is reviewed. The radiated electric field may be calculated at all angles and frequencies from just two phenomonological functions related to the longitudinal and transverse profiles of the shower. A prescription is given for extracting the relevant profiles from shower Monte Carlo calculations. Results obtained for one shower may be scaled to other energies and environments. A two parameter analytic model for shower profiles is proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
