Abstract: The article focuses on the design, production and characterization of a duplex coating system for Ti6A14V components consisting of a high velocity Oxygen fuel (HVOF) tungsten carbide cobalt (WC-Co) interlayer and a titanium/titanium nitride (Ti/TiN) multilayer deposited by cathodic arc evaporation-physical vapour deposition (CAE-PVD). The researchers concluded that the introduction of such a thin Ti buffer layer did not involve an excessive reduction in hardness, while improved toughness and load bearing capacity were observed.
