| Abstract: |
The article discusses the assessment of deepwater-riser vortex-induced vibration (VIV) using a computational-fluid-dynamics (CFD) approach. Numerically solving the Navier-Stokes equation in conjunction with a Smagorinsky subgrid scale model determined the flow field around the riser. The assessment found that the Riser VIV could experience multimode VIV in uniform current and that the CFD approach provides reasonable results. Therefore, the method is feasible for deep-water-riser-VIV assessment. |
