Abstract: The article discusses biomineralization in carbonate systems. Some of the carbonate systems include amorphous calcium carbonate, corals, foraminifera, coccolithophorids, brachiopods and mollusc. Coccolithophores and foraminiferans are devoid of a periostracum and instead nucleate biominerals within intracellular vesicles.
