Subjects: Shear (Mechanics), Planes (Hand tools), Strength of materials, Strains & stresses (Mechanics), Axial loads
Abstract: The article presents a study which developed an analytical method to provide a better understanding of bolt shearing across joint planes under lateral confinement. Hinge point location, the effect of concrete strength on the bolt-bending behavior, and the influence of bolt axial loading and bolt diameter on the hinge position are some of the issues examined. The applied axial load on the bolt was found to have a significant bearing on the location of the hinge points in strength concrete.
