| Abstract: | The article focuses on the issue of a 60 million dollar bid for control of Pergamon Press founded by Captain Robert Maxwell. On the advice of merchant banker N.M. Rothschild & Sons Ltd., Saul Steinberg, chairman of Manhattan's Leasco Data Processing Equipment Corp. offered the bid. Steinberg pressed for more financial information, which resulted in a conflict. The resulting issue has become one of the longest in the British business history. Great Britain's overseer of commercial practices, the Board of Trade is investigating the controversy. |
