Abstract: The article reports on research by computer security scientist Elie Bursztein and team on developing software to test CAPTCHA security systems used by many large websites such as Google, eBay, and Wikipedia to differentiate between human users and potentially damaging computer programs. The software was able to consistently break the security of text-based CAPTCHAs from many websites except Google, a finding that researchers plan to use to help those companies improve their online security.
