| Abstract: |
The magnetochemical, optical and magnetooptical properties of (COT)- Pr[HB(Me2pz)3] have been determined at ambient and low temperatures. First, the absorption and luminescence spectra indicate that the f electrons experience a dominant crystal field (CF) of C8v symmetry and a slight perturbation field of trigonal symmetry (which mainly may be studied by the CF parameter B66). On the basis of the optical spectra the underlying CF splitting pattern is derived, and simulated by fitting the free parameters of an empirical Hamiltonian. For 35 assignments an RMS deviation of 28 cm-1 is achieved. The parameters obtained are discussed and compared with the predictions of previous model calculations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
