Abstract (English): The development of necessary skills for a professional performance required by society emphasizes the need to create conditions that allow their incorporation during the academic stage. This paper presents an analysis of an activity developed during the Civil Engineering career which intends to focus on several skills needed such as capability of work in group, creativity, the relationship between the abstract model and the real model, the realization of an idea and strategies for full development. The activity proposed is a Spaghetti Bridge Contest, where students have to design and build a truss bridge model. They also have to estimate the failure load, and the model must be loaded up to the collapse. The objetives proposed in the two first editions of this contest were achieved by the students who were really committed to the task and showed great responsibility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): El desarrollo de las habilidades necesarias para el desempeño profesional demandado por la sociedad pone de manifiesto la necesidad de crear las condiciones que permitan su adquisición durante la etapa de formación académica. Este trabajo presenta un análisis de una actividad desarrollada en la carrera de Ingeniería Civil que pretende trabajar sobre varias competencias necesarias como el trabajo en equipo, la creatividad, la relación entre el modelo abstracto y el modelo real, la concreción material de una idea y las estrategias para su desarrollo completo. La actividad propuesta es un concurso de puentes de spaghettis, en el que los estudiantes deben diseñar y construir un modelo de puente de barras. También, tienen que estimar la carga de rotura y el modelo debe ser cargado hasta el colapso. Los objetivos propuestos para las dos primeras ediciones de este concurso fueron alcanzados por los estudiantes, que estuvieron realmente comprometidos con la tarea y mostraron gran responsabilidad.
