Abstract: An indication of the current interest of early childhood teacher trainers and program directors in observation techniques is reflected in the popularity of several recently published guides to classroom observation. The Kansas investigators make a significant contribution to classroom observation technology by describing a system for observing children and their teachers in interaction. The program of research presented in this monograph spans a period of 5 years and involves the observation of more than 40 teachers and their children. The teacher training techniques have been put to the test; all of the methods for teaching teachers to be effective primers and reinforcers of children were successful.
