The present study addresses aspects related to the evaluation of competence in the processing of information in students of teaching careers. On the basis of intentional sampling, 108 students were applied and an eduteka.org instrument was used to evaluate this competence. The processing of the data collected through this instrument, although it reveals a favorable trend, the majority of students -according to them- they do know, and at the same time apply this competence in the handling of information (CMI); however, there are contradictions in the answers that denote limitations in the intelligent processing of information. El presente estudio aborda aspectos relacionados con la evaluación de la competencia en el procesamiento de la información en estudiantes de carreras docentes. Sobre la base de un muestreo intencional, se aplicó a 108 estudiantes un instrumento de eduteka.org que sirve para evaluar esta competencia. El procesamiento de los datos recogidos a través de este instrumento, si bien revela una tendencia favorable; es decir, que en su mayoría los estudiantes -según ellos- sí conocen y a la vez aplican esta competencia en el manejo de la información (CMI); no obstante, existen contradicciones en las respuestas que denotan limitaciones en el procesamiento inteligente de la información.
