In the daily work, there are various situations where you can see the ways in which mathematics is seen. Here is the result of a research in the career of Business Administration of the Autonomous Regional University of the Andes, which is evident, considering diagnoses made on the level of knowledge that students admitted to the career have, flaws in the mathematical logical reasoning and the ability to solve problems with the help of mathematical tools. In the development of the research, a methodological strategy is proposed to approach the mathematics, allowing to go beyond a merely mechanical procedure in the resolution of real problems through the Mathematical Modeling. En el quehacer diario, son diversas las situaciones en donde se pueden evidenciar las formas en las que se ven las matemáticas. Aquí se presenta el resultado de una investigación en la carrera de Administración de Empresas de la Universidad Regional Autónoma de los Andes, en la que se evidencian, considerando diagnósticos realizados sobre el nivel de conocimiento que tienen los estudiantes admitidos en la carrera, falencias en el razonamiento lógico matemático y la habilidad de solucionar problemas con ayuda de herramientas matemáticas. En el desarrollo de la investigación se propone una estrategia metodológica para abordar la matemática, permitiendo ir más allá de un procedimiento meramente mecánico en la resolución de problemas reales mediante la Modelación Matemática.
